Multi-frame Super Resolution Using Refined Exploration of Extensive Self-examples

چکیده
The multi-frame super resolution (SR) problem is to generate high resolution (HR) images by referring to a sequence of low resolution (LR) images. However, traditional multi-frame SR methods fail to take full advantage of the redundancy in LR images. In this paper, we present a novel algorithm using a refined example-based SR framework to cope with this problem. The refined framework includes two innovative points. First, based upon a thorough study of multi-frame and single frame statistics, we extend the single frame examplebased scheme to multi-frame. Instead of training an external dictionary, we search for examples in the image pyramids of the LR inputs, i.e., a set of multi-resolution images derived from the input LRs. Second, we propose a new metric to find similar image patches, which not only considers the intensity and structure features of a patch but also adaptively balances between these two parts. With the refined framework, we are able to make the utmost of the redundancy in LR images to facilitate the SR process. As can be seen from the experiments, it is efficient in preserving structural features. Experimental results also show that our algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art methods on test sequences, achieving the average PSNR gain by up to 1.2dB.

Pseudo Zernike Moment-based Multi-frame Super Resolution
The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...
متن کاملMulti-frame Super Resolution for Improving Vehicle Licence Plate Recognition
License plate recognition (LPR) by digital image processing, which is widely used in traffic monitor and control, is one of the most important goals in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). In real ITS, the resolution of input images are not very high since technology challenges and cost of high resolution cameras. However, when the license plate image is taken at low resolution, the license...
متن کاملLight Field Super-Resolution Via Graph-Based Regularization
Light field cameras can capture the 3D information in a scene with a single shot. This special feature makes light field cameras very appealing for a variety of applications: from the popular post-capture refocus, to depth estimation and imagebased rendering. However, light field cameras suffer by design from strong limitations in their spatial resolution, which should therefore be augmented by...
متن کاملInverse Problems and Self-similarity in Imaging
This thesis examines the concept of image self-similarity and provides solutions to various associated inverse problems such as resolution enhancement and missing fractal codes. In general, many real-world inverse problems are ill-posed, mainly because of the lack of existence of a unique solution. The procedure of providing acceptable unique solutions to such problems is known as regularizatio...
متن کاملVideo Mosaicking Using Ancillary Data to Facilitate Size Estimation
This thesis describes a mosaicking system designed to generate image mosaics that facilitate size estimation of 3-dimensional objects by improving data obtained with a multi-sensor video camera. The multi-sensor camera is equipped with a pulse laser-rangefinder and internally mounted inclinometers that measure instrument orientation about three axes. Using orientation data and video data, mosai...
